CSEA MEMBER MEETING
There will be a 1-hour meeting of the CSEA membership next Wednesday, April 26, at 3 PM in a location to be announced.
The agenda for this informational meeting will include a report and Q&A on the terms implemented by the administration after CSEA members rejected the tentative agreement, discussion of Work to the Rule guidelines and issues, an update on recruiting, a brief budget report, and upward evaluation.
If you have agenda items you would like to add, please notify Steve Abbott no later than Monday, April 24, so your item can be added to the agenda and meeting location that will be sent out Tuesday.
ONE MORE VALUE OF CSEA MEMBERSHIP
Periodically, faculty have expressed their appreciation for the various benefits that come with being members of CSEA. We intend to include some of their comments in upcoming issues of What's Really Happening. Here's one, from Judy Anderson of the Communication Skills Department:
"One benefit that has made a huge difference in my life is the First Time Home Buyer program administered through the Wells Fargo Bank in cooperation with the National Education Association. Last May I applied for a pre-approved mortgage loan and within a couple of weeks received the amount I'd requested, with an interest rate better than any I'd been able to find. Before I knew it, my daughter and I were house shopping! In less than a week, we signed a contract on the perfect Cape Cod nestled on a quiet street three blocks from her high school. We closed a couple of weeks later, and by June 11 we'd moved in. The whole process took about a month! By July, our new puppy was chewing up the carpet, my daughter's attic room was a big mess, and I was borrowing my neighbor's step ladder to clean leaves from the gutters. Thanks to NEA, we were home."
DEADLINE FOR SIGN-UP FOR RACE FOR THE CURE
If you want to take part in the run/walk, THURSDAY, APRIL 20 is the last day to fill out a paper application for the race.
CSEA invites any College employee to join the CSEA team to raise money for breast cancer research on Saturday, May 20 in the annual Komen Race for the Cure.
You can get an application form from:
Return the form to one of us with a $20 check to "Komen Columbus Race for the Cure."
You can also register online to walk/run through April 28 at:

To make sure you are a part of the Columbus State Education Association team:
- Click on "REGISTER NOW" button.
- Select "2006 Team Registration."
- Check the "I agree to the above waiver" and "I agree that I am 18 or older" box. You do not need an Account login.
- Click "CONTINUE"
- In the "Select a Team" drop box, pick our team name "Columbus State Education Association".
- Fill out the remainder of the form.
Registering online costs $20 plus a $1.40 processing fee.
And if you aren't inclined to run or walk that early, you can register your application and then "Sleep in for the Cure" on May 20.

You can make a donation in any amount to a team member. Checks should be made out to "Komen Columbus Race for the Cure."
The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of fitness walk/runs in the world. The Race for the Cure not only encourages breast cancer awareness but uses its funds to help in research and development of breast cancer treatments. CSEA is proud to be a participant in this year's event.
OHIO UNIVERSITY FACULTY WILL EVALUATE OU PRESIDENT
Faculty at Ohio University will vote by next month to determine whether to establish a yearly evaluation of the university's president, according to a Columbus Dispatch story earlier this week. A tie vote in the OU Faculty Senate moved the decision to the entire faculty.
More than 250 OU faculty have signed a petition sponsored by the American Association of University Professors calling for annual faculty evaluations of the president and provost.
OU's Board of Trustees apparently understands the situation. OU Board Chairman Greg Browning announced Friday that its executive committee is setting up its own procedure for faculty to evaluate the president.
Upward evaluation remains an unsettled issue here at Columbus State. In negotiations for the first contract, the administration refused any form of evaluation of managers by faculty. CSEA later conducted a faculty evaluation of department chairs, sharing the results only with the chairs.
