WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING

Columbus State Education Association Newsletter of September 19, 2005

TUESDAY MEETING AND VOTE ON BOARD'S "LAST/BEST/FINAL OFFER"- PLAN TO ATTEND

With the Board's "last/best/final offer" on salary, health care, work assignments, and faculty/student ratio as the major outstanding issues in negotiations, we urge you to attend the MEETING FOR ALL FULL-TIME FACULTY on Tuesday, September 20 (the day before classes begin) at 3 p.m. in Franklin Hall 106.

Adjunct faculty are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Negotiating Team believes it is essential that EVERYONE in the bargaining unit attend, regardless of union membership. The team will outline the Board's offer and make a recommendation on whether to accept or reject its terms. It is critical that you attend this meeting as part of your preparation for the beginning of Autumn Quarter and to understand implications for salary, benefits, and working conditions under the next contract.

CSEA members will then be able to vote (only members can vote) on whether to accept or reject the Board's offer. Members who do not use continuing payroll deduction must be paid for the 2005-2006 academic year. Memberships-cash/full payment renewals or new-can be paid at the September 20 meeting so that you can vote.

Voting will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, September 21-22, in the Mathematics Department conference room on the 4th floor of Davidson Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The Board's offer has a deadline of September 23.

The Board has indicated in its offer that if faculty will not accept terms that are dictated rather than negotiated, it will implement its final offer as a contract. CSEA members will then decide whether to live with an un-negotiated contract or take other action.

PLAN TO ATTEND THE BOARD MEETING THURSDAY AT 6 PM

We encourage you to join faculty in support of students who plan to attend the Board of Trustees meeting this Thursday, September 22, at 6 p.m. in Franklin Hall.

Faculty will gather at Nestor Hall at 5:45 p.m.

The Board of Trustees frequently seems out of touch with what's really happening inside the college. During the public participation potion of the agenda, students and faculty will address the Board with their concerns about flawed management decisions that have resulted in the decline in service to students over the past several years. Speakers will discuss registration and financial aid, course cancellations, and other managerial and administrative issues.

Your presence will make a difference. Those who have not yet indicated their intent to attend can help by letting us know by a quick REPLY to this email.

As Autumn Quarter begins, you can help to educate the Board with information that can help them to improve conditions. Come support those who will let the Board know what's being done to Columbus State's reputation and what's NOT being done to fulfill the college's responsibilities to its students and employees.
