What's Really Happening

Columbus State Education Association Newsletter of April 28, 2003

UPCOMING PAY CALCULATIONS

The April 30 pay will be faculty's first one at the new rate resulting from the new contract. This new amount should be your NEW 3-QUARTER SALARY (based on the placement table contained in the tentative agreement you received previously) DIVIDED BY 18.

The May 15 check will contain pay at the new rate plus retroactive pay to the beginning of Autumn Quarter 2002. It should be your INCREASE IN 3-QUARTER PAY (new 3-quarter salary MINUS old 3-quarter salary), DIVIDED BY 18, then MULTIPLIED BY 13.

This check will also contain retroactive pay of an additional dollar per hour for each hour of overload worked from the beginning of Winter Quarter 2002. This number will vary with each faculty member.

Finally, the May 31 paycheck will contain a retroactive bonus for each faculty member, based on the faculty member's rank as of July 1, 2002. These amounts are $375 FOR INSTRUCTORS, $750 FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSORS, $1125 FOR ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS, AND $1500 FOR FULL PROFESSORS.

LOCAL DUES

At the membership meeting last Thursday, members approved local dues of $54 per year (which works out to $1.50 per paycheck during the regular academic year). This amount will be included in the full dues amount on membership forms for the dues year September 2003-August 2004. Local dues will support printing and duplication costs, any mediation expanses that may be necessary, and other union business.

CSEA COMMITTEES

Several faculty have volunteered to work on the committees that will be formed as a result of letters of agreement included in the contract. Your participation in internal union work will be an important part of our ongoing efforts as an Association. We expect to distribute a list of committees with descriptions of their activities to all faculty in the next Update. We appreciate those who have already indicated their interest in helping, and we look forward to whatever contribution you can make to assure that CSEA is an association that you can serve as it serves each of you.

WRAPPING UP THE CONTRACT

The Negotiating Team is working with the College to complete work on language for each article of the contract. This involves making sure that terms are consistent throughout the contract and organizing various parts into related groups for easier reading and understanding. Once this document is agreed upon, it will be printed up, reviewed, corrected if necessary, and signed by the parties. Each bargaining unit member will then receive a printed copy of the final contract.
