The Word from CSEA

Columbus State Education Association Newsletter of August 24, 2006

IMPORTANCE OF THE CONSTELLATION/ACCREDITATION SURVEY

As part of its accreditation process, the College is conducting a survey to measure the effectiveness of varying aspects of the College's operation. The Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) offers all employees to provide candid evaluations of a range of college services and activities.

<-p>CSEA urges you to make faculty viewpoints heard through this important activity. Faculty input is critical to developing an accurate and realistic appraisal of institutional performance. The survey, which is totally confidential, is available online through September 22.

Your thoughtful participation is critical. Since there are many questions, we offer the following helpful hints:

  1. Spread your work over several sessions. You can save your responses and log in later to complete the process. Be sure to write down or print out your access number before closing out of your session.
  2. Consider making additional comments to any question by clicking the "Add comments" button.
  3. Keep in mind that each question has 2 parts: the College's goals and how well these goals are being achieved.
  4. Be sure to fill out the final section that allows you to address any issues that you believe are not sufficiently addressed by the questions provided. Go into whatever level of detail you wish, but voice your views. Remember that the survey is confidential. This portion may be the most important section for faculty and for the larger process.

You can access the survey by following this link: www.cscc.edu/aqip and using the password "cscc".

We believe that faculty concerns will be addressed if we express them during this important process. Please complete the survey. And keep your response number from the survey to be eligible for 2 tickets to Taste the Future. (So even if you don't intend to volunteer to work the event, you can show up and indulge in the amazing while being served by your colleagues.)

SPEAKING OF TASTE THE FUTURE.

We encourage all CSEA members to sign-up to help at Taste the Future, the College's annual fundraiser for the Development Foundation's scholarship funds.

For years CSEA members have made up the bulk of faculty volunteers at this event that raises more than $250,000 annually to provide scholarships for our students. Mark your calendar for September 12 (yes, it's during the break) and sign up to work using the attached volunteer form or by calling Nina Reese at x5495.

MESSAGE FROM THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR

Ingrid Emch reports that all full-time faculty members should be receiving a membership letter in their campus mail before the end of August. If you do not receive one, please email Ingrid at iemch@cscc.edu to let her know.

Current members will receive letters along with updated OEA materials. If you previously signed up for continuing payroll deduction, your new membership card will also be enclosed with the letter, and you do not need to do anything further.

Current members who previously paid their dues by check or by annual payroll deduction will receive a new membership form along with updated OEA materials.

Faculty members interested in joining CSEA may complete the membership form. Once processed, you will receive a packet of materials that explains some of the benefits you are entitled to as a member of the faculty organization.

Any faculty member completing a membership form must indicate on the bottom of the form the desired method of paying dues. Selecting continuing payroll deduction allows you to complete the form one time for ongoing membership throughout our current faculty contract. Selecting annual payroll deduction will require you to complete the membership form each year. Selecting cash or check will require a lump sum payment of the annual dues. Due to the processing work required each year for membership enrollment, we encourage ongoing members to pay through continuing payroll deduction.

If you have any questions or need help completing the forms, please don't hesitate to contact Ingrid. We are excited about building our membership and hope you will become active members of our faculty organization.

READERS NEEDED FOR SUMMER COMMENCEMENT

Faculty members from each division routinely serve as readers of graduating students' names at each quarter's commencement ceremonies. Faculty readers from the Arts & Sciences Division are needed for this quarter's ceremony on Friday, September 8.

If you are interested in performing this important form of college service and recognizing our students' achievement, contact Suzanne May at x5115.
