The Word from CSEA

Columbus State Education Association Newsletter of August 9 , 2006

ACCREDITATION PROCESS SEEKS YOUR INPUT

The College has begun preparing for its decennial accreditation. As part of that activity it will use a new process called the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). This will involve a different methodology than we have used since 1971, and the AQIP committee will be notifying employees next week about its information gathering and how we all can shape this evaluation.

The first step in the AQIP process will be a "Constellation Survey," which will survey all College employees about what the College values and how we are performing in various areas. The survey will allow you a chance to identify what College processes work well and which can use improvement.

CSEA urges you to make faculty viewpoints heard through this important activity. Faculty input is critical to developing an accurate and realistic appraisal of institutional performance. The survey, which is totally confidential, will be available in both print and online forms beginning Monday, August 14, and continuing through September 22. It will take 20-30 minutes to complete.

Please take the time to fill out the survey, particularly the "comments" section at the end that allows you to expand your responses to survey questions and/or express views on items that you believe the survey has overlooked or not addressed sufficiently. This portion may be the most important section for you and for the larger process.

We believe that faculty concerns will be addressed if we express them during this important process. Please complete the survey. And keep your response number from the survey to be eligible for a raffle prize to be awarded at a later date.

AUTUMN CSEA ELECTIONS

The Association's Nominating Committee for the autumn elections is contacting prospective candidates for all Association leadership positions, including the addition of

8 new Association Representative positions.

The committee will compile a slate of candidates to submit for a vote by the membership early in Autumn Quarter. Other individual members can be included on the election ballots by using the form attached to the July 20 issue of The Word to nominate themselves.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES WITH CSEA

You can serve both your Association and the College by contributing your skills to one of CSEA's committees:

Membership: handles recruitment of new members; promotes members benefits; plans social activities, maintains membership records.

Communications: produces The Word from CSEA and other informational materials; maintains Association web site, www.cseafaculty.org ; handles publicity and media relations.

Grievance: works with Association Representatives to investigate, process and oversee progress of grievances.

Action: conducts research; designs structures and processes related to job actions; prepares and directs events/actions requiring presence of membership.

Contact Steve Abbott, x5096, to discuss your interests in contributing to these vital committees.

VOLUNTEER FOR TASTE THE FUTURE

We encourage all CSEA members to sign-up to help at The Taste the Future, the College's annual fundraiser for the Development Foundation's scholarship funds.

For years CSEA members have made up the bulk of faculty volunteers at this event that raises more than $250,000 annually to provide scholarships for our students. Mark your calendar for September 12 (yes, it's during the break) and sign up to work using the attached volunteer form.
