SUMMER PAY AND HEALTH CARE CHANGES

Faculty who are teaching Summer Quarter will see some changes in pay on the July 15 pay stub. With some faculty changing their health care coverage and a variety of other variables affecting upcoming pay vouchers, we have worked with payroll representatives in Human Resources to offer the following clarifying information:

  • Beginning with the July 15 pay period, faculty will receive a 3.75% increase in their regular pay.
  • During Summer Quarter only, faculty salaries are reduced approximately 3% due to the way the College computes the length of a quarter.
  • Faculty who are teaching Summer Quarter will receive a one-time $500 payment to help offset increases in health insurance costs. (Faculty who are not teaching Summer Quarter will receive this one-time $500 payment with their October 15 pay.)
  • Deductions for health insurance premiums are not deducted during Summer Quarter (except for those faculty who have opted to have their 3-quarter salary paid out over 12 months).
  • Deductions for CSEA/OEA dues are not deducted during Summer Quarter.

Also on their July 15 pay stub, faculty who have their 3-quarter salary paid out over 9 months (the majority of us) will see one-time adjustments due to the increase in health insurance premiums that became effective July 1, 2006. This will not apply to those faculty who have opted to have their 3-quarter salary paid out over 12 months. These adjustments are due to the fact that faculty pay for health insurance for July, August, and September in advance, but effective July 1, 2006 the health insurance premiums for these 3 months has increased.

Faculty who chose to remain on the same health care plan as they were in last year will thus see a one-time deduction in their July 15 pay stub to pay for the increase in premiums for those three months. The amount of these deductions is shown below (you can also consult the detailed grid and related charges/reimbursements attached to this newsletter).

High Plan 086-M, Family Coverage: $385.95
High Plan 086-M, Single Coverage: $140.34
Core Plan 061-M, Family Coverage: $60.45
Core Plan 061-M, Single Coverage: $21.99
HSA, Family Coverage: $47.13
HSA, Single Coverage: $17.13

Those faculty who switched health insurance plans, for example from the "high" plan to one of the two "low" plans, may receive a one-time refund on their July 15 pay stub, due to their overpayment of premiums for the months of July, August, and September. These amounts will vary, depending on which plans are involved and the type of coverage (single or family) selected.

New faculty who began employment Spring or Summer Quarters will see charges for health care reflected on their pay vouchers throughout Summer Quarter 2006.

If you have questions about these amounts, you may contact Darrell Minor at x5310 or dminor@cscc.edu

VOLUNTEER FOR TASTE THE FUTURE SEPTEMBER 12

The Taste the Future fundraiser for the Development Foundation's scholarship funds always falls during the break between Summer and Autumn Quarters, but it's one of the most important events of the year.

For years CSEA members have made up the bulk of faculty volunteers at this event that raises more than $250,000 annually to provide scholarships for our students. We encourage you to mark your calendar for September 12 (5 p.m.-10 p.m.) and sign up to work this event when the Development Office issues its call for volunteers in a few weeks.

ASSOCIATION WORK = COLLEGE SERVICE

Faculty have the opportunity to serve both CSEA and the College by participating in service to the Association. The Nominating Committee will begin its work in the coming weeks, seeking individuals interested in standing for election to leadership roles as well as participation in committee work.

You are CSEA, and your talents have a place in the ongoing work of building an Association that serves faculty through advocacy, communications, participation in local and state organizations, membership and social functions. We hope you'll consider contributing your skills and effort to activity in your Association. A full list of opportunities will appear in the next The Word from CSEA.
